Ngorongoro Crater

Olmoti Crater
Above: The Ngorongoro Craters seen from space.
While the Ngorongoro Crater
is the single most visited site, the rest of the NCA offers many rewards
for those visitors prepared to explore further afield.
Olmoti Crater is at 3,700 metres but the crater
itself is relatively shallow and home to many grazing animals. Water flows
across the floor where it pours through a small but spectacular cleft
on the south side. It is a favourite route for foot safaris.
Viewing the bubbling floor of Oldonyo Lengai
Crater from the edge of the ash cone on the summit, is the
ultimate reward for those who climb the mountain.
Empakaai Crater,
300 meters deep and six kms wide, is dominated by a soda lake which occupies
nearly half the floor. It supports a variety of unique water- bird life.
All this and supurb views can be enjoyed along the 32 km rim walk.
